About Me
My name is Esther Yun Ling and I live with my family in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada. I am passionate in coaching elementary and intermediate pianists of all ages. My teaching approach promotes diversity and balance, and is heavily influenced under the guidance of leading Canadian musicians and educators, Carmen Gorgichuk, Derek Chiu, Dr. Sabrina Chang, and Dr. Merlin Thompson. I am known for successfully personalizing goals and lessons for each student's learning styles while following a core curriculum. I focus on building a strong foundation in technique and core concepts (literacy and aural) with opportunities to explore music of all genres and creativity, be it interpretation, composing, or improvising. I am a certified elementary RCM Teacher, and prepare committed students for performance opportunities at local and national music festivals, as well as exams with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM).
It's been 30 years of piano for me ... and still counting! Besides classical music, I am a huge fan of Disney, Studio Ghibli, Anime/Video Game/Film Music, Jazz ballads, and improvising contemporary pop tunes by ear. Collaboration is my passion, and I accompany instrumentalists in ensemble performances. I am always looking for opportunities to be part of community ensembles to bring the healing and joy of classical music to the people.
Cool Fact About Me!
I am actually a chemical engineer by trade. After a few years working as a professional engineer and settling down as a mother, I decided to return to formal music education to explore my passion in classical piano performance and pedagogy. The journey has been amazing and it has spurred my passion to greater heights. I am a firm believer that success in music is not about talent. No matter your age or where you are in your journey, it takes hard work, self-discipline and teamwork from all three roles: student, parents and teacher.
Now, you've heard all about me, it's your turn! What are your goals and aspirations? Tell me your story and I would love to be a part of your musical journey.
