Esther Ling is a Malaysian-born, Canadian pianist, composer and aspiring singer-songwriter currently based in Grande Prairie, AB, Canada. She has had the great opportunity to develop the artist and educator in her under the mentorship of master Canadian pianists Chris Andrew, Carmen Gorgichuck, Dr. Sabrina Chang, and Derek Chiu. She performs music regularly in community events, local choir groups, student recitals/festivals, and ensemble groups.
A sensitive composer and songwriter, her writings are drawn from our experiences in life, telling stories of romance, heartbreaks, friendship and courage. Besides classical music, she is a huge fan of Disney, Studio Ghibli, Anime/Video Game/Film Music, Jazz, Mando-pop, and other contemporary tunes.
As an educator, she focuses on building a strong foundation in piano technique and core concepts (literacy and aural) with a balanced learning of musicianship skills, exploring both classical and contemporary piano repertoire. She is a certified elementary RCM Teacher, and prepare committed students for performance opportunities at local and national music festivals, as well as exams with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or Conservatory Canada (CC).
Originally, a chemical engineer by trade, she left the corporate world when she became a mother. Her passion in music reignited when she started teaching her young daughter to play the piano. Returning to formal music studies allowed her to delve deeper into the art of music performance. She is a firm believer that success in music is not about talent. No matter your age or where you are in your journey, it takes hard work, self-discipline and a supportive learning and practice environment.
